Once the indication has been established at assessment, laser treatment is a brief procedure performed under local anaesthetic eye drops. This page describes the procedure on the day, what you will experience and the instructions to follow.
Laser treatment only takes place after a pre-operative assessment confirming eligibility and selecting the technique best suited to your eye. Instructions are provided in advance: stopping contact lens wear, arranging transport home and hygiene on the day.
On the day of treatment, everything has already been calculated at the assessment: the procedure itself is brief and performed under local anaesthetic eye drops.
Laser treatment is performed as a day case: you arrive and leave on the same day. Please arrange to be accompanied, as vision is blurred immediately after the procedure.
The procedure may vary slightly depending on the technique selected (Lasik, PKR), but follows the same main stages.

Anaesthetic eye drops make the procedure painless. A sensation of pressure or a brief darkening of vision may be noticed during the procedure, without pain.
